Events in Paris this month

July 14 - Bastille Day

Fête Nationale is celebrated every July 14 in France. This historic date commemorates the storming of the Bastille, a key event in French history that marked the French Revolution. This festive day is marked by many traditions. In Paris, curious onlookers flock to the military parade in the morning, which this year takes place on Avenue Foch. In the evening, the Eiffel Tower sparkles with a spectacular fireworks display. Parisians of all ages enjoy the firemen's balls, which go on until the wee hours of the morning.

Opening of the 2024 Olympic Games

On Friday, July 26, 2024 from 7:30pm to 11pm, the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will be held. This event will take place on the Seine between the Pont d'Austerlitz and the Pont d'Iéna. 10,500 athletes from 206 delegations are expected to attend. And for the first time in the history of the Games, the athletes won't be parading in a stadium, but on the Seine! The 6 km route will begin at the Pont d'Austerlitz and end at the Pont d'Iéna. Special arrangements will be put in place to ensure public safety and the smooth organization of the event. These will cause disruption to travel several days before the event.

Exhibition of the month

Roman exhibition at the Louvre - Until November 11, 2024

The Musée du Louvre unveils the masterpieces of the Torlonia Collection, exceptional Roman antique sculptures that have not been shown in France for almost a century. The sculptures in the Torlonia collection belong to a private collection built up by the Torlonia princes, Roman noblemen who built up their fortune between the 18th and 19th centuries. This family of collectors worked hard throughout the 19th century to find and purchase these incredible antique pieces, creating what is today the world's largest private collection of antique pieces. They can be admired in the restored apartments of Anne of Austria, the home of the Paris museum's permanent collection of antique sculptures.

Restaurants of the month

Via del Campo

Sardinian chef Enrico Masia's dishes take diners to all the regions of Italy, with a special focus on Sardinia, the chef's birthplace, which receives the highest praise here. Regulars are quick to consult the daily menu, created according to the chef's inspiration and new arrivals.

Café Fika

Today, in the heart of Paris' Marais district, the Swedish cultural center offers a fika for every hour of the day: pastries and hot drinks in the morning, salads, tartines and dishes of the day for a light lunch, gourmet snacks and aperitifs at the end of the day. The menus, which change with the seasons and the calendar of traditions, are lovingly designed by Swedish chef Maria Printz Emond, a "gastronomic translator" based in Sörmland.

Unusual place

Petit Palais Garden

The Petit Palais garden is a haven of peace. Situated in the heart of the museum, it is the perfect place to take a break while visiting the collections and exhibitions, and to access the museum's café-restaurant. The garden is organized around three ponds, paved with blue and gold tesserae mosaics created by the Giandomenico Facchina workshop (1826-1923) for the museum's opening in 1900. It is planted with exotic trees (palms, bananas), mixed with grasses or trees whose foliage changes with the seasons.
